

She was born May 13, 1944, in Grady, Alabama to the late Louis and Lela May (Boswell) Austin.
She retired from Akron General Medical Center after 25 years of service. After retirement she ministered to patients throughout the hospital for several years. Minister Anthony was a member and Sunday school teacher for many years of New Trinity Baptist Church. She was licensed as a Minister in 2008. She was also an Associate Minister and Sunday School teacher at The Upper Room Action Ministry. She started attending New Zion AME Church in Tallassee, Alabama virtually during COVID. She never met a person that she didn’t use the opportunity to speak about the goodness of the lord.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Lee Anthony, and her siblings, Tessie Carlisle, Mary Austin Tellis, Eula Austin, Annie Ree Preston, Addie Ruth Johnson, Emely Austin, James Thomas Austin, Willie Austin, Deacon Curley Austin, Henry Austin, LJ Austin, Willie Henry Austin, Fred L Austin, and Luther Austin.
She will be missed by her children, Karen (Michael) Evans, Cynthia Solomon, and Joe (Antoinette) Anthony; her five grandchildren, Michael Evans, Nicole Smith, Ajoilyn Anthony, Cedrick Anthony, and Jodeci Ramsey; four great grandchildren, Trae Evans, Aniya McCravey, Michael Rice IV, and Zion Buie. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Twin sister Martha (Johnnie) Thomas, Tiller (Fletcher) Blair, and Johnnie Mae McNeil; and special niece Shirley Gayles and special nephews Willie Curtis Blair, Marvin, David, Norman and Dwayne Shepard.
Calling hours for Mary will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Rose Hill Funeral Home & Burial Park, 3653 W Market St, Akron, Ohio 44333, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Donzella Rodgers, officiant; Interment in Rose Hill Burial Park.
