Mary Halcie Palm (Ashley) 95, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2019. After all of her determination and strength, she was ready to rest in the arms of her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. Still living in her same home of 56 years cooking and cleaning for herself! Raised on a 300 acre working farm in WV then moving to Akron at the age of 20. She worked 25 years for a CPA firm downtown Akron as a statistical typist, this is where she met her forever friend, and encourager, Mary Muncey.
She was proceeded in death by parents Owen and Anna Ashley, her steadfast rock and husband David Palm, sister Helen Lambey, and brother Elden Ashley.
Survived by her only child, daughter Davette Gregory, son in law Vance Gregory, grandson David Vance. Although her daughter's family lived in Tennessee, they visited often making sure that grandson David could share in his grandparent’s life; beloved sisters Nell Starcher of OH and Myrtle Campbell of WV.
Davette wishes to express appreciation and thanks to her Aunt Nell and friend Alice Dyer as they consistently phoned her Mother each evening, encouraging her and reminding her of God's love. Neighbors Deborah, JoAnn, and Betty Lee who faithfully watched over Mom's house and brought the mail to her door step. Special friends and neighbors, Roy Hedrick and wife Penny, for always coming when phoned, attending Mom's every need. The many gracious, steadfast, caregivers, and friends Mom had met thru her church. Vonda Dunn, Sharon Ferrell, Kehla Norris ,Molly, Becky, Pastor Jim, Pastor Carr, Emily Jones and the entire congregation and pastors of Riverside Alliance Church giving her personalized visits and in home communion. And Davette wishes to thank her forever friends from Coventry High School who have become her sisters and brothers to her over the last 40 years: Paula D., Karen, Colleen, Mary, Linda, Paula S., and Jeff.
Although Mom was hesitant to let any strangers in her home, she embraced the care she received from her Summa Health in home Palliative care nurses, Sue Aquirre, Nicole Jones, and Briana Nixon. Who went above and beyond to be by her side even taking her to hospital and being at her bedside during her passing. Mike Fitts and family for faithfully taking her garbage cans out to the street each week, Gary Bittner for mowing her lawn. Nieces Rosie, Diane, and Lib who gave their never ending love and support to her and Davette. Nephew, Jack Palm for continuing to come to her aide once her husband passed away, helping with home repairs and any questions that arose regarding The Bricklayers Union. Family Dr. Myers nurse, Jan, who phoned her regularly regarding her health then keeping Davette abreast of her Mother's health.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, at 2:00 PM in the Rose Hill Burial Park 3653 W Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Arrangements under the care of Rose Hill Funeral Home. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.rosehillbp.com
