Bob was born November 1, 1948, in Canton, Ohio to the late Robert L. and Edith M. (Queen) Barnett. He attended school in Canton, Ohio, at Belle Stone Primary and then graduated in 1966 from (“Old”) Canton-McKinley High; Kent State University 1967-1977, US Army 1972-1974 at Fort Polk, LA as Brigade Communications Clerk, back to Kent State 1974-1977. Bob played violin in the Canton Youth Symphony, and First Chair in Canton-McKinley High School Orchestra. He was very proud of his Boy Scouts Camping “Polar Bear” Achievement Patch.
Bob worked for the Timken Company, Canton Public Library, owned/operated his own photography business “My Photographer” 1978-2012, and full-time route driver/processor for Fotomat/Konica in Hudson, Ohio 1977-1990. Bob met his future wife, Faith Fenyves, when he returned to Kent State in fall 1974 while ice skating backwards looking opposite directions, bumped into each other causing Bob to land on the ice. This formed Faith’s “claim to fame” of literally knocking her future husband off his feet. He found out she was a KSU Figure Skating Club, joined it and “the rest is history” – 50 years together with 46-3/4 married years. Yes, sometimes “the ice was bumpy.” Bob would “feign” embarrassment when she told that story—but he really loved hearing it. They together enjoyed attending movies, concerts, dancing at Powwows, picnics, long walks, bicycle rides, ice skating, Akron Aeros Baseball games, being with each other’s families, exploring their surroundings, all of their “crazy furball” cats over the years, volunteering at MAPS Air Museum, and anything else they thought of to do. Sometimes Faith would very reluctantly watch McKinley-Massillon or Cleveland Browns football games with Bob.
Bob was also a “Supporting” member of the Native American Indian & Veterans Center (Norton, Ohio), the Cuyahoga Falls American Legion Ralph Huff Post 281, and a Temple Israel Canton congregant proudly helping Faith lead Passover Seders for 25 years (tons of fun!).
Bob is preceded by all his grandparents—Sherman and Helen (Bederman) Barnett, John M. and Grace (Francis) Queen.
He is survived by his wife Faith (Fenyves) Barnett, and younger siblings Cynthia (Christopher) Maurer, Beverly (Barry) Ring, John Barnett, Barbara Barnett; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will start 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Rose Hill Funeral Home and Burial Park, 3653 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio, 44333, followed by a short graveside service and burial. Rabbi David Komerofsky and Rabbi Emeritus John Spitzer of Temple Israel Canton will lead burial services.
