Bob was the son of John H. Lauer and Edna E. Lauer (née Focht), and the grandson of Benjamin and Harriet Lauer and Alva and Isal Focht.
He is survived by his nephews, Benjamin Pitt Henry Lauer of Chardon and Robert Kenda Lauer of Akron; his sister, Janet (John) Wallace of Chicago; and many dear lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, William Henry Lauer; his sister-in-law, Cecilia A. Lauer; and his parents.
A true Akronite, Bob graduated from Firestone High School in 1967. He later attended the University of Akron to study engineering. Bob built a long and meaningful life in Akron, working first as an auto mechanic and later serving as Master Equipment Mechanic Foreman for Akron Public Works. He maintained friendships spanning more than 50 years, and those friendships, along with his family, were among his greatest sources of pride.
Bob will be remembered for his seemingly endless knowledge and generosity, both of which he freely shared with family and friends. His quiet demeanor, often punctuated by witty one-liners that became the highlight of many gatherings, will be deeply missed.
A private service will be held for close friends and family.
