Born May 9, 1940, in Tunnelton, West Virginia, Shirley will be remembered as a beloved presence whose compassionate spirit and kind-hearted way of caring for others left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Shirley was a high school graduate who carried steady purpose into each season of life.
She worked as a floral designer with silk flowers, a calling well suited to her gentle nature and thoughtful attention—bringing beauty to everyday moments and comfort to others through simple, meaningful gestures. Her creativity was a constant joy. Shirley’s love of arts and crafts, along with her fondness for flowers, reflected the quiet grace with which she approached life—patient, warm, and always mindful of the people around her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother James and Mildred Uphold; her brothers Joseph Uphold and Robert Uphold; and her sister Mary Sheets.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Albert Costlow; her son Michael Costlow; her daughter Kimberly Costlow-Spangler (Stephen); her grandson Chaz Costlow-Spangler; her sister Loretta Weaver; and her bonus daughter Ann Tisci. Shirley also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home & Burial Park, 3653 W Market St, Akron, Ohio 44333, on June 18, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at Rose Hill Funeral Home & Burial Park on June 18, 2026, at 4:00 pm.
Final resting place will be at Rose Hill Funeral Home & Burial Park, 3653 W Market St, Akron.
