A lifelong Akron area resident, he graduated from Buchtel High School in 1963 and spent the next six years in the United States Marine Corp. As a Akron native, John worked at BF Goodrich, as did his father, before pursuing a career at Sugardale, from which he retired in 2003.
John was always willing to help out as he did in countless Boy Scout activities, coaching countless sports teams and lending a hand when needed. He loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could “taking it all in”. He was a friend to all and will be missed by everyone who had the chance to meet him. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ella Humphrys. He is survived by sons Bill (Hiam), Sean (Dawn) and Scott (Kim) Humphrys; grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Julia, Nick, Drew, Ella, Cate and Audrey Humphrys; great grandson Zane Humphrys and former wife and friend Helen Humphrys.
