He was born on August 29, 1948, in Harman, Virginia, and spent most of his life in Akron, Ohio. He proudly served his country as an Army veteran with B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry. He was a member of the American Legion, formerly Post 209.
Bill dedicated 46 years of his working life to RCA Rubber Company, where he served as Human Resources Manager. He retired in November 2015, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of dedication and service. He also graduated from Central High School in 1966, making many lasting memories and life-long friendships.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Sloan; his sisters, Lynda (Len) Hartman and Lori (Gary) Dobbins as well as many cherished friends.
Bill was a loving and giving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Sloan; his precious daughter, Kimberly (Alex) Stakleff, and wonderful grandson, Sloan William (Rachel) Stakleff, who brought him immense joy.
He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Carol) Sloan of Roseville, California; his sister, Lesa (Rick) Maconachy and brother, Michael Sloan of Akron, Ohio. He leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Ken) Berisko and Marlene Horner, and brother-in-law, Dave Lowrey, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Bill will be remembered for his generous heart and the kindness he showed to those around him. His greatest joy was the people he loved and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
Friends may attend calling hours from 12:00–2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, on his birthday as a celebration of life, at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Akron. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. and procession to follow at the funeral home.
