She was a graduate of Albion High School in 1957 and a 1958 graduate of Wright’s Beauty Academy in Battle Creek, MI.
On June 27, 1959, she married Paul M. Sawchuk at the First Baptist Church in Albion, MI. They were married for 42 years until his passing on November 02, 2001. Barbara’s greatest joy was caring for her husband, children and grandchildren, spending most of her life as a homemaker. She had a selfless, caring spirit, taking care of her beloved parents and in-laws, as well. She worked outside of the home for Albion Public Schools and Nash Hallmark Shop.
Barbara was a canner of pickles and fruit from her own garden. She was a baker, always had a bunny cake every Easter and made several types of Christmas cookies every year. Barbara made holidays, birthdays, and every day special for everyone. She had a beautifully well-kempt home and had a well-dressed decorative porch goose that brought her so much joy (if you know, you know). She was a member of choir in high school and the First Baptist Church choir, music brought Barbara comfort always. She would sew Halloween and parade costumes, Catherine’s baton twirling outfit and many more. Barbara was a HUGE MSU fan and rarely missed a game. If she wasn’t 15 minutes early, she was late.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Sawchuk, two grandchildren, Kyndra Maddux and Philip Michael Paul Kolk, great-grandchildren, Catherine and Michael Paul Goodwin, as well as, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Sawchuk, son, Michael Paul Sawchuk, granddaughter, Amanda, sister, Beverly Shaffer, parents, Ford and Beulah Bramble, and in-laws, Paul and Steffenida Sawchuk.
A very special thank you to the staff at the Laurels of Bedford and Heartland Hospice.
A private burial will take place.
From Catherine,
So many precious memories will carry me through until we meet again,
Always and forever, Mama
