OBITUARY

Betty Joyce Clark

August 3, 1932February 16, 2020

Betty Joyce Clark, 87, of Albion, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Michigan Medicine (The University of Michigan Hospital System) in Ann Arbor. She was born August 3, 1932 in Battle Creek to John Henry and Ethel May (Tucker) Rowland. In January 1950, Betty married Clarence Clark, who preceded her in death May 3, 1989.

Betty was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She first worked at Olivers, which was an airplane factory in Battle Creek during the Korean War. Corning Glass Works in Albion later employed her. She then devoted all her time to her husband and children. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Saint Johns Catholic Church.

She golfed and was a sports fan. She was a big football fan, following the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions. She also followed the Detroit Redwings. She was super smart and could fix anything, including the car, the sink, anything in the yard and also the washing machine.

She was big on education and she made sure her children were able to go on all school trips, from France to Blue Lake Music Camp as well as taking them to various historical places herself, such as Greenfield Village, Detroit Zoo, upper Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. It was important to her to make sure that the family as a whole always made a yearly trek to the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, OH and that tradition still goes on to this day. It is coming up on 49 years.

Betty is survived by her son, Clarence J. Clark Jr.; her five daughters, Cecelia A. Simmons, Ethel Y. English, Hannah D. Clark, Ophelia P. Clark and Leontine F. Clark; her three grandchildren, Jabour C. Clark, Falana T. English and Ebony E. Sunday; her five great-grandchildren; Xavier English, Falana Phillips, Jabour Clark, Jr., Jade English and Naji Sherrod. Her husband and her sisters; Hannah Margaret Rowland, Helen A. (Rowland) Sadberry and Nina Mae Davidson, preceded her in death.

According to her wishes, a memorial mass with the rosary to follow will be held at Saint Johns Catholic Church in Albion at 11:00am on Friday, February 21, 2020.

To Lee Clark and her family,

For those of us who know you but never had the honor to meet your mother we know she was a great lady. We also know you are both one of her greatest admirers and one of her greatest gifts to the people whose lives you touch everyday. By knowing you we feel we have known your mother. We wish you and your family peace on Mrs. Betty Joyce Clark's homegoing.
