in Battle Creek, Michigan. Betty was born to James Johnson Jr. and Effie Mae (Allen) Johnson Reese on March 20, 1947. James Johnson Jr. later married Rosetta (Couvillion) Johnson.
God is Good; I was blessed to have two great mothers in my life. Also I was blessed to have another Mother; Dixie Lee (Ridley) Earl who enriched my life tremendously.
Betty attended Crowell School and Washington Gardner Jr. High. She went on to get her
G.E.D. while living in Kansas. Her first job was working at Albion College; she moved to
Battle Creek and worked at several restaurants plus the VA Hospital; she then went to work
at Fisher Body in Kalamazoo then moved back to Albion in 1979 to work at Macke until
her mother, Rosetta passed away in December 2000.
Betty was taking care of her Mother, Rosetta and after she passed, Betty’s heart was broken.
She had to move, and ended up moving back to Kansas City, Missouri. While living in
Kansas she worked at Aptuit/Catilent for 8 years and moved back to Albion on September 12, 2012.
Betty loved the Lord and accepted Christ early in life. She believed in serving God. She would
always talk to you about the Lord. She would always pray for and with you. While living in
Battle Creek she attended Open Door Church with Pastor Eugene B. McCoy. While living in
Kansas, Betty united with several churches. She would work either Usher or be a Greater.
She was known to keep those candy mints to pass out.
When she moved back to Albion she joined John 3:16 under the leadership of Apostle Kurtz.
recently Betty had fellowshipped with Tabernacle of David in Lansing, Michigan.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; James Johnson Jr., Effie Mae (Allen) Reese,
mother Rosetta Johnson, mother Dixie L. Earl; brother Robert (Cat) Couvillion; sisters
Ruth (David) Jenkins and Jacquline (Jackie) Couvillion; her special friends & sisters
Surrenthia (Ridley) Tubbs and Herma Jean Bradley; step-son Ambrose Tate.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons Roneldo (Malida) Johnson, Rashon Johnson;
step-children Rochelle (Tate) Patterson, Willie Tate Jr. and God-son Derick Bonner and his
children; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; Special Friends Deanna Tate, Sidney Barkley,
Lorraine Alabi & Family- friends in Kansas & Aptuit. A Host of nieces, nephews and friends
who will deeply miss her.
Betty loved to entertain and be with family. She was an excellent cook. Betty loved to bowl,
played cards, dominos and chess. She did a lot of shopping too, loved all kinds of music.
Memorial Service will be on Monday, January 18, 2021 with visitation from 11:00am – 12:00pm and the service starting at 12PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, MI 49224 with Pastor’s Paul & Kendra Elam officiating.
