His mother, father, three brothers, and two sisters: Clarence Jr., Huey, Aubrey, Dorothy, and Marilyn (Pat) preceded him in death.
Calvin married Estelle Griffith, June 29th, 1958. To this union were born four children: Bonita (Charles) Wells of Southfield, Michigan; Crystal (Tom) Carter of Merrillville, Indiana; Calvin Jr. (Kelly) Wheeler of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Joseph Wheeler of Albion, Michigan.
Calvin was an Albion High School Graduate of Washington Gardner High. He served in The United States Army from 1951-1953. He fought in the Korea War and was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He was also a lifetime member of the Albion VFW Post #3672 where he served as a past Commander, the Chaplin, and Chairman over the use of the building.
Calvin was employed by Corning Glass Works for twenty-five years where he worked as a millwright. After Corning closed he stayed home for four months and babysat Joseph, his youngest son and decided he could not do that any longer!!! He immediately took a position as a millwright at Post Cereal in Battle Creek, Michigan until he retired in 1992.
Calvin was born in Macon, Georgia and was brought to Albion by his parents at the age of five due to his father obtaining a better paying job working for the Albion Malleable Iron Company. Calvin was raised to work and believed in saving money for the future. Calvin set a great example of having good work ethics to his children. All of his children were required to have a job before completing high school. Plus he always had work projects for them to finish. He did not allow you to be sitting around doing nothing. His motto was "GET UP AND GET WITH IT". Back in the day his nickname was "Cat" because he was fast and on the move!!!
Mr. Wheeler accepted Christ as his personal Savior in the Spring of 1975 and became a member of Grace Temple Church of God in Christ. He served as Trustee of the church and helped to build the church physically and financially.
Brother Wheeler leaves to cherish his legacy & memory: his children, his siblings, (Mattie Ruth Simmons, Alton, Harvey, and Darryl (Grace); grandchildren (Lawrence, Jade, Elizabeth, Victoria (Andres), and Charles Paul; great-grandchildren (Klein and Karley), and his daughter, Karen Hall, and granddaughter Nicole, many other family member, and friends will always remember him.
