

Charles Augustus “Chuck” Spicer, Jr., 59 years, 11 months, and 21 days old passed away on July 12, 2023 at Detroit Receiving Hospital, Detroit, MI following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 4, 1963 in Albion, MI to the late Charles Augustus Spicer, Sr. (August 21, 2013), and Joyce J. (Thomas) Spicer.
He graduated from Albion Senior High School in 1981 and continued his education at ITT Technical Institute, Ft. Wayne, IN earning an associate degree in Electronics in 1983. He attended Jackson Community College in 1999 earning a Criminal Justice Certificate with a 4.0 GPA. Chuck held a CDL (commercial driver’s license), and was certified to operate heavy equipment. He was employed as an Engineering Technician at Hayes-Albion Corporation, Machine Operator at Albion Industries, Treatment Plant Operator and Parks Department/Groundskeeper for the City of Albion, Corrections Officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections, and a Forklift Driver for Knauff Insulation.
He became a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served in the music ministry as a member of the Youth Choir and Male Chorus.
Along with his family, the graduating class of 1981 was among the highlights of his life. He loved to barbeque and considered himself the pitmaster for family meals and class reunions.
Chuck was a firearm aficionado and owned multiple weapons. He was an ardent University of Michigan Football fan and attended many games throughout his lifetime. His love of football was second to basketball, of which his sister was a member of Michigan’s Best Ever Women’s Team. His wardrobe included many, many, many University of Michigan themed outfits (licensed or not).
One of his favorite hobbies was traveling to Mississippi to hunt and log with his uncles, and visit with his cousins. He especially loved caring for seniors and regularly drove them to doctor’s appointments and provided many meals from his Mother’s kitchen.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his Mother, two brothers, Wade (Jeanette) Spicer, and Timothy Spicer of Albion, MI; his baby sister, Leslie (Glen) Williams of Canton, MI. Seven nephews – Wesley Spicer, Albion, MI; Justin Spicer, Jackson, MI; Ti Spicer, Indianapolis, IN; Jayden Williams, Canton, MI; Amari Spicer, Battle Creek, MI; Chris Williams, Farmington Hills, MI; and Dominique Williams, Coconut Creek, FL. One niece, Cydney Joi Williams, Canton, MI. One great nephew, Justin O. Spicer II, Jackson, MI.
Since he did not have biological children, he considered Cydney and Jayden his children as he was a babysitter for them, and was Jayden’s Godfather.
He is also survived by aunts, Fannie Thomas, Jane Spicer, and Helen Walton of Vicksburg, MS and LeTila Smith, Milwaukee, WI.
He is survived by numerous cousins however, his favorites are: Stanley Spicer, Larry Thomas, Walt Jones, Tony Harris, the late Ned Sims, Candy Mitchell, Cindy Scott, Penny Evans, and Carrie Glass.
His special friends are many - David Jackson, Ben Kulikowski, and Stevie Walker, as well as the entire class of 1981.
He was preceded in death by his maternal (Hosie and Willie Ree Thomas, Sr.) and paternal (Napoleon and Rosa Spicer, Sr.) grandparents; his father, Charles A. Spicer, Sr., three aunts (Sarah Williams, Mandy Ivory, and Catherine Brown), and 11 uncles (Hosie Thomas, Jr., Herman Charles Thomas, Cornelius Thomas, Leatrice “Lee” Thomas, Larry Thomas, James “J.E.” Spicer, L.T. Spicer, Roosevelt Spicer, William Lee Spicer, Julius Spicer, and Napoleon Spicer, Jr.).
Chuck’s family will receive visitors on Friday from 5-7PM at J. Kevin Tidd funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI. His Home Going Services will be celebrated on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Grace Temple COGIC, 711 Grace St, Albion with family hour beginning at 11AM until the time of service at 12PM. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Albion.
