Davey Edward Shelby

Davey Shelby, born March 16, 1970, in Beaumont, Texas, to Deborah K. Brown, sadly passed away on August 3, 2025. A talented athlete and a beloved figure to many. Davey’s passion for football shone brightly from a young age. He honed his skills at Odom Jr. High School in Beaumont before relocating to Albion, Michigan. He excelled at Albion Senior High School, graduating with the distinguished class of 1988 as a proud Wildcat. His athletic prowess earned him a coveted football scholarship, leading him to further his education and football career at Allen University in South Carolina.

Davey was a devoted father and cherished his large family. He leaves behind his loving mother, Deborah K. Brown, his brother, Ron C. Brown, and his four sisters: LaShondra (Trecie) Baker, Schondra (Gregg) Eubanks, Jodie A. Baker, and Pearl R. Baker. He was also a beloved “son” to his Aunt/Mom Patricia A. Baker/Babino and Uncle/Dad Allen A. Baker. His legacy continues through his eight children: A’Kela D. Brown and Kameron Woody both of South Carolina, and Zyaira V. Shelby, Alize’ Shelby, Jaden D. Shelby, Isaiah D. Shelby, Amaya N. Geter, and Aniaya M. Geter, all residing in New York. He will be fondly remembered by special friends, Rachel Geter, Robert “Boo” Morehead, Dion Mitchell, Gregory Gant, Harry Bonner, Jr., Joe Cotton, Flex Nelson, Carol Brown and David Owen along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in both Texas and Michigan. The Albion Wildcats Class of 1988, Angela Kennedy, and his Godmother Mary Molett will always hold a special place in their hearts for Davey.

Davey was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary L. Hill, affectionately known as “Weese”, and his great-grandmother, Mabe Francis Johnson.

Davey’s family will celebrate his life with a homegoing on Friday August 22, 2025 at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI with family hour beginning at 11AM until the time of service at 12PM.
