David served his country honorably from 1974 – 1995 in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He married his wife, Dagmar (Hurdelbrink) McKinney in 1977. They grew their family and spending time with their kids and grandkids filled his heart. After his time in the military, he was a truck driver, diesel mechanic and housing inspector. He also loved vacationing, especially trips to Myrtle Beach and Florida. His other passion was sports. He was athletic, spending many years playing football, baseball, softball, golf and hockey. He also spent a lot of time in his pole barn, working outside and on his tractor.
He is survived by his wife, Dagmar McKinney; children, Nichole (John) Logan, David McKinney III, William (Katie) McKinney and Michele (Matt) Mentink; grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew, Kristen, Nick, Zack, Parker, Connor, Logan, Madison, Brody, Harper and Ellie; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Dan) Lincoln, Rich McKinney, Rob (Tia) McKinney and Joy (Brett) Kinney; Dana (Terry) Anderla, Dawn Hawks, Diana (Bob) Siscoe, and mother in law, Dolores Manthei.
David is preceded in death by his parents, David McKinney, Geraldine Blodgett, and stepfather, Ed Blodgett; father-in-law, Bill Hurdelbrink; in-laws, Debbie and Jim Herwarth and David Hurdelbrink.

A visitation for David will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr. Albion, MI 49224. Services will be held the following day, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, visitation will begin at 10:00AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 Luther Blvd. Albion, MI 49224.
