Dolores Ann (Soltis) Mills age 85 of Albion, formerly of Jackson passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at H. F. Allegiance Hospital in Jackson after suffering a stroke on Saturday.

Her words: “I was born January 3, 1935 at 1204 S. Elm Street in Jackson, MI in grandma Mietelka’s house. Born to Leonard S. (1911-1974) and Adeline H. (Mietelka) Soltis (1914-1976). I married David L. Mills on February 19, 1955 and he preceded me in death on September 14, 2010.

Also preceding me in death were my brother Richard Soltis in 1995 and my sister Patricia Lindbert in 2016; and my beloved 15 year old pet Chihuahua “Peanut” in 2015.

I graduated from Jackson St. Mary’s High School in 1953. I worked at the famous Regent Café all throughout high school. I helped open the Albion Kroger store, worked as a cook for 10 years at the Albion Elk’s Lodge #1798, and had a 20 year catering business before my health turned. “I have been cremated. There will be no service. I had a good life.” May God especially bless my sons Thomas, Daniel and Steven for their many years of care before my death.”

She is survived by her children, Thomas Mills of Albion, Marian (Larry) Fitzpatrick of Albion, Margaret Mills of Sarasota, FL, James (MaryJo) Mills of Lansing, Douglas (Caroline) Mills of Johnstown, PA, Kenneth Mills of Albion, Daniel Mills of Albion and Steven Mills of Albion; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother Lenny Soltis of Jackson, MI.

Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Mills family. Your Mom was a kind and giving woman that was deeply rooted in her faith! The type of mother that not only kept a close eye on her own kids, but also on their friends. She will be missed by our community.

Father of all, we pray to you for Dolores, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let the perpetual light shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

I was very sad to hear of your loss.
She always told me when she 1st met me, she fell in love with me. A great memory to hold on to. I stayed many night with you kids, I love each 1 of you and will be here when you need me. For 20 years she was the most sought after caterer in Albion. Made the best food and taught me those recipes. I was proud to work side by side with my Aunt Dolores. She also taught me and my mom how to make her Famos Polish Bread. Your recipes are safe with me. It is up to you children to share them. You are at Peace now with our Lord, and our family in heaven.
I love you. Thank you for giving me 8 of the best friends a cousin could ask for... Thomas, Marian, Margie, James, Doug, Dan, Kenny and Steve.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mrs Mills passing. I have fond memories of her as the amazing cook that she was. I remember my parents working with her at the Elks and I hired her to cater my wedding. She was a loving, hardworking mother who cared for her children deeply. I am sorry for your loss, Steve and Dan. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
