Dorothy J. (Burnett) Shelters age 94 of Albion passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Marshall under the loving care of her family, hospice and the staff of Best Care East in Marshall. She was born in Albion on February 8, 1930 the daughter of Winifred and Marguerite (Wisner) Burnett.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert L. Shelters on November 11, 1950 and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2013 after almost 63 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by both her parents, her sister, Marjorie Moore and her brother Howard Burnett.
Dorothy and her husband owned and operated R & D Foods in Homer, MI for years, serving many people in the surrounding communities. She then worked for Doctors Curry, Long and Booth for many years and also was employed with Parks Drug Store for many years, finally retiring at age 83. Dorothy was a very active, fun lady who loved her grandkids and great grandkids, even getting down on the floor to play with them, despite being in her older years. She also loved her Collies, having many over the years, and loved taking them for walks.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Joanne Hess, Janet (Glen) Butters, Jean (John Grady) Butters, one son, William G. (Joni) Shelters, grandchildren: Carol (Steve) Abbee, Darrick (Aurora) Butters, Ryan (Dora) Butters, Heath (Laura) Shelters, Preston Butters, great-grandchildren: Zachary, Meghan, Alyssa, Natasha, Ella, Yvey, Saori, Kenneth and Carter.
Dorothy’s family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 Luther Blvd, Albion, MI, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 with visitation beginning at 10AM until the time of service at 11AM with Pastor Paul Koehn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
