

William ‘Doyle’ Vickers, age 88, of Albion passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 31 2014 at home. He was born June 22, 1925 to James Ovin and Thelma Elise (Clark) Vickers in Louisville Mississippi. After serving in WWII, he came to Albion where he met and married Eleanor Jane Vickers on December 28, 1947. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2008.Doyle was very proud to serve his country in the US Marine Corp during World War II, in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the VFW Post 3672 and the American Legion Post 55 in Albion. He retired from Decker Manufacturing after 40 years. During that time he also owned and operated Vickers Printing Company. He volunteered for the Albion Ambulance Servifor 17 years. His proudest possession was the deer he shot, which won him the 1995 Boone and Crockett Award with 21 atypical points. It was the largest deer bagged in Calhoun County that year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife ‘Jane’, sister Evelyn Blauvelt.
Visitation for the family and friends will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 2 - 4 and 6-8 PM at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion Michigan 49224. Funeral Service will be held Friday June 6, 2014 at 1 PM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Charlotte Ellison officiating. Military Honors will be held at the funeral home.
