Gladys Lee Ridley

Gladys Lee Ridley, age 94 of Albion passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at her home. She was born in Albion on January 30, 1922 the daughter of William and Mary (Elder) Barting. She married Marion A. Ridley on August 25, 1940 and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1994.

Gladys was a graduate of Washington Gardner High School and was a devoted wife, mother and

homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Lewis Chapel AME Church who was involved in the

Stewardship as well as serving with the Missionary Society at her church. Gladys enjoyed

cooking, baking (especially pound cakes), reading, writing poems and watching sports. She loved

the Detroit Tigers and also enjoyed watching basketball. In addition to her husband, Gladys was

also preceded in death by her paretns, 2 daughters, Camille and Cornelia; 3 brothers, James,

Willie and Robert Barting and 6 loving sisters-in-laws..

Gladys leaves to cherish her memory 5 children; Sharon Harris, Cheryl (John) Artis, Douglas

(Shirley) Ridley, Judy Ridley, Eric (Sandra) Ridley, 15 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren,

6 great-great-grandchildren, Goddaughter, Veronica Wheeler and sisters-in-law; Mabel Grant

of Battle Creek and Gertrude Barting of Albion and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Glady’s family will celebrate her life on Saturday, April 16, 2016 beginning with family hour at

11:00AM followed by service at 12 NOON at Lewis Chapel A.M.E. Church, 522 W. Center Street, Albion, Michigan 49224, beginning with family hour at 11:00AM followed by a service at 12:00PM.with Rev. Donald L. Phillips III officiating. Interment at Albion Memory Gardens.
