Guadalupe Gonzalez Jr., age 84 of Springport, MI passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice in Jackson under the loving care of his family. He was born on December 9, 1937 in Cisco, Texas the son of Guadalupe and Bennet (Mendes) Gonzalez, Sr and they preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death a son, Frank Gonzalez and brothers, John and Vidal Gonzalez. On November 9, 1956, Guadalupe was united in marriage to Barbara Niceswander and she survives.
Guadalupe was a very hard worker, beginning at the tender age of 10 working on the Walter-Harden Farm as well as through his lifetime working on Hartung Farm and Clearview Farm, then was employed with McGraw Edison for about 10 years and finally working for GM for 35 years until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid supporter of Springport Schools; loved going to MIS selling programs in the infield to support the Springport Sports Boosters and volunteered for the SAFE program. He also loved helping with the playground at Springport Schools and with building projects on the playground. He held dear to his heart the saying “It’s all about the kids”. Guadalupe was always working and when he wasn’t working, he was helping family and friends with various projects, building things or whatever they needed done.
In addition to his loving wife Barbara of 65 years, Guadalupe leaves 5 children: Deborah Brock, Larry Gonzalez, Susan (Michael) Speer, Michael (Lorann) Gonzalez, Anthony Gonzalez, 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, siblings: Pete (Maria), Joe (Laura), Jessie (Juana), Tommy (Margie), Mary, Irene, Tony and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Guadalupe’s family will celebrate his life on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 with visitation from 2PM until his service at 3PM. The family will also stay after the service for visitation for folks unable to make it before.
