Iris O. Ball age 96 of Concord passed away Friday, December 2, 2022 at Countryside Manor in Jackson under the loving care of her family and Hospice. She was born January 14, 1926 in Albion, Michigan the daughter of Carson and Gladys (Lindley) Noakes. Iris was a graduate of Washington Gardner High School in Albion, class of 1943 and was employed from 1944 – 1947 at Union Steel where she met her husband, Ernest T. Ball. They were married on February 24, 1946 in Albion and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2010. Iris is also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Leon Noakes, Shirley VanBuren and DeVere Noakes.
Iris leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Carol Opria, 2 sons, Ron (Deborah) Ball, Rich (Kim) Ball, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren 2 sisters, Rexine Cockroft and Vernice Gaines.
Iris was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She grew up on a farm and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She loved growing roses and was an excellent cook. She even spent some of her time and talent catering homemade meals for American Legion Dinners, weddings and other events. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and also volunteered her time at the VA Hospitals in both Ann Arbor and Battle Creek.
A service to celebrate Iris’s life will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 beginning with visitation at 10AM until the service time at 11AM officiated by Pastor and family member, Brenda Walters at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 1PM.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Macular Degeneration Research or the American Cancer Society.
