Jim was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He had a dry sense of humor and got great joy out of getting a rise out of people. He always tried to act like he was a big tough guy but really was a big softy. He loved his sports; golf, softball, volleyball, basketball, and bowling. He was a huge Michigan sports fan and Detroit Lions fan. He was very committed to his family and his work. Jim was a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker, working many years at Albion Machine & Tool making his way up to VP status.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Herwarth; son, James Herwarth, II; daughter, Kristy (Bob) Hemminger; grandchildren, Ashley Hemminger, Chelsea Hemminger, and Chloe Hemminger; his father, Robert Louis Herwarth; siblings, Roberta Barnes, Richard (Rusty) Herwarth, Cynthia (Ted) Kincaid-Colier, Robert (Hope) Herwarth, II, and Brian Hewarth.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Herwarth; brothers-in-law, Mark Kincaid and Daniel Barnes, as well as, his grandparents, Carl Herwarth, Iva Herwarth, Frances Youmans, and Jenny Goodrich Youmans.
A funeral service for James will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 at 12:00 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Pastor Paul Koehn officiating.
