Jessie James Wright, 70 of Albion, Michigan passed from this life on July 3, 2020 after bravely fighting cancer. Jessie was born August 24, 1949 in Bessemer, Alabama. He came to Battle Creek, Michigan in the 60’s with his mother and siblings. Jessie graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and attended Western Michigan University. Jessie was a stand out athlete at Battle Creek Central running on a relay team that still stands 50 years later as well as played on the football team that went 26-1.
Jessie held jobs in Battle Creek, MI and Atlanta, GA but was known for 2 lines of employment, he was the number man and he was the Chauffeur. He was known for picking up the numbers and driving for several cab services. He was also available to drive people to out of town destinations: vacations and family reunions just to name a few. He had a knack for playing cards and winning the lottery.
Jessie was a gentle man that respected everyone. He loved sports, playing dominoes, hanging out with family and friends, watching his favorite game show: Jeopardy and the kids. He would take kids to the park, movies, out for ice cream and to ball games.
Jessie united with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bobby J. McKenzie where he confessed Christ. During this unprecedented time of COVID-19, Jessie could be seen reading and studying his word. In addition, he watched television ministries to increase his knowledge and growth in Christ.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosie (Miller) Wright and two brothers, Dwight Wright and Ronnie Wright.
Jessie leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Tammi White of Albion, MI and a son, Timothy Thompson of Battle Creek, MI, sister, Delores (Harry) Wright Campbell of Flint, MI and brother, Michael (Tommie) Wright of Albion, MI good friends, Yacht, Chuck, Blake and Archie as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jessie's family will receive visitors for a family hour on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of his Home Going Celebration at 12 NOON officiated by Reverend Bobby J. McKenzie at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. Burial will follow immediately in Riverside Cemetery, Albion.
