Julia A. Miller, 99, of Albion, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 under the loving care of her family and hospice. She was born December 21, 1918 in Dixon, Illinois the daughter of Charles H. Lapham and Lora (Normington). During WWII she was employed by the Illinois Northern Utilities Company (in the Industrial Relations Dept., and then in the Purchasing Dept.). She attended Michigan State University where she met Joel C. Miller and married on June 25, 1949. For 20 years they owned and operated a farm west of Albion, retiring in 1972. Julia served on the School Board of the Anthony School, was a charter member of the Calhoun County Genealogical Society, member of the Albion Historical Society, and for several years volunteered in the Local History Room of the Albion District Library. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities.
She is survived by two children: Margaret E. (Charles) Stringham and Howard L. Miller, four grandchildren Elizabeth (Wayne) Weaver, Michael Miller, Jeffrey Stringham and David Stringham and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Joel, brothers Warren Lapham and John Lapham, half-brothers Edward and Scott Lapham and half-sisters Inez Fulton, Esther Calder and Miriam Gordon.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. Services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Porter St., Albion with Pastor Chuck McNeil officiating. Cremation will take place following services and Julia will be interred at a later date next to her late husband in Albion Memory Gardens.
