Lonnie Brewer Sr.

Lonnie, born to Calvin and Gertie Brewer, moved to Albion, Michigan, where he graduated from Albion High School in 1982.

He married Carolyn (Shi) Brewer, and to this union, three children were born. Lonnie worked at Lear Manufacturing as the union president in Marshall, Michigan. When Lear closed, he worked on the business, Double Vision, and his home daycare.

Lonnie loved his family and music, and he had a passion for the city of Albion. His heart was always open for the youth. Just talking about what he wanted to do for the community always brought a smile to his face. Lonnie and his brother, Donnie, opened a nonprofit organization called, Double Vision. Their vision was to create a safe space where young people could go without worrying about their safety. His love for the community was genuine and authentic. Lonnie and Donnie would gather in Donnie’s garage, showing love to the community, sharing and caring for the people. Lonnie’s activism will live on.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Shi) Brewer; three children, Lonnie Brewer Jr., Sequana Lee Brewer, and Shinetta Renee Brewer; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Calvin (Michele) Brewer, Donnie (Yolonda) Brewer and Tony Brewer; three sisters, Carolyn (Tim) Kurtz, Sara Robinson and Sonja Thomas; six sisters-in-law, Willy (Eric) Baldwin, Maggie Coats, April Coats, Apostle Ruby Coats, Luevina (Tyree) Williams, and Eddie Mae Brewer, plus, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; one goddaughter, Shakita Cook and one godson, Nate Cook.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Gertie and Calvin Brewer Sr.; one brother, Larrey Brewer Sr.; one sister, Nancy Harvey; his mother-in-law, Willie Coats, and father-in-law, L.C. Coats, and four grandchildren.

Lonnie will truly be missed!

A family hour for Lonnie will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at FreeWay Church, 28900 B Drive N, Albion, Michigan 49224, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Albion, Michigan.
