Battle Creek, Michigan, formerly of Albion

Age 78 passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice. She was born October 20, 1936 in Big Rock, VA., one of fourteen children born to Arnold and Zelda (Ward) Collier. She married Thurl Young, Sr on July 17, 1954 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1998. Loretta was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah K. Young-Burton, a grandson, Dakota Young and 7 of her siblings.

Loretta loved country music, the outdoors and camping. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and taking care of her flowers. She loved bowling and bowled on several leagues. Most of all she enjoyed her family; she loved cooking for them, especially the Sunday dinners everyone looked forward to over the years.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Thurl (Robin) Young, Jr, Briggite “Penny” (Mike) Wallace, Kelly (Tina) Hurley and Tabitha Upston; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and siblings: Carlos (Paula) Collier, Stanton (Judy) Collier, Joe (Annette) Collier, Cheryl (Jerry) Dean, Patty (Wes Carr) Bailey and Janice Rogers.

Loretta’s family will celebrate her life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI. Burial immediately following at Riverside Cemetery, Albion. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 1-3 PM & 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to help with funeral expenses.
