Lutisha McGhee (Sis or Lou) was born December 7, 1937 to David and Mary (Swain) Lawler in Talladega, AL. She was raised in a close knit family with values of hard work. Faith in GOD and LOVE for Family. On September 6, 2021 she made her heavenly transition at the age of 83 in the comfort of her Albion home.
Although, Lutisha did not complete high school. She stressed the importance of education to her children.
Lutisha’s work ethic began at an early age. Before becoming a licensed beautician by attending Cosmetology School in Battle Creek. She had various positions as a maid and kitchen helper. She owned and operated Hair Salons in various locations in Albion until she officially retired at the age of 79. She took a lot of pride ensuring her customers hair was properly cared for! As a teenager, Lutisha was united in marriage to Terry Estelle on September 15, 1956 in Talladega, AL to this union three children were born, one daughter and two sons. In 1974 she married James McGhee and this union led to the birth of her third son. Lutisha moved to Albion with her first husband, Terry in 1964 to join a number of their siblings who relocated north for jobs in the booming auto industry. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
With her love and passion for cooking and feeding folks, she spent a few years as a member of the kitchen ministry. She was known by family members, church members and friends for her “finger licking good” cooking skills. Good Food for the stomach was her way of expressing her LOVE from the heart! She always remembered to prepare everyone’s favorite dish or dessert! Lutisha loved her children, family and lifelong friends. She enjoyed shopping for hidden treasures at thrift stores. Before her health declined, she would be seen getting her exercise on by walking through the park and neighborhood. She loved life and rarely complained, finding moments of joy even though the medical treatment administered during her illness was severe for a person her age. She was a very strong woman! A sign of her love for life was her love for laughter. She was known for her distinctive and infectious laugh! If you were in her presence, you were guaranteed a conversation with plenty of laughter. Her laugh will be remembered forever!
Lutisha leaves to carry on her memory: children, Sandra Joyce Estelle, Gerry Dean Estelle, Larry Warren Estelle and Cedric Dean Estelle; siblings, Charles Lawler and John D. (Henrietta) Lawler; grandchildren, Jason Estelle, Jalen Harmon-Estelle and Shaylyn Estelle; great grandchildren, Jaali and Sanaa Estelle and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Lutisha was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Terry Estelle; ex-husband, James McGhee; siblings, Virgetta (Elonzo) Duncan, Bishop Elisha Lawler, Lorene (June) Pointer, Hugh (Essie Mae) Lawler, Henry (Hazel) Lawler, JT Lawler, Walter (Ruth) Lawler, Wiggy and Amos Lawler
Funeral Service will be on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11:00am with family hour starting at 10:00am
at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1010 Chauncey Street, Albion, Michigan 49224 with
Pastor Bobby J. McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow at Albion Memory Gardens.
