Marti worked in retail and then in food service at Sheldon Manor and Albion Senior High School. In 1977, Marti settled in for the next 34 years at Albion College as the House Mother for Sigma Chi Fraternity. Marti was a legacy as she became a second mom to over 1,700 young men who pledged to the fraternity. Marti cooked two meals a day but wore many hats as she served her title faithfully. Marti helped when “her boys” were sick, gave advice, guided them in job interview preparation and much more.
Marti was very proud of Sigma Chi and carried out the history and holding the fraternity to the highest degree possible. Marti made history by receiving the National House Parent award, not once, but twice!
Marti was a devoted Olivet High School Girls Basketball fan. She attended every game possible to watch her granddaughters play. GO GREEN! GO WHITE!
Marti was also a huge fan of Tom Izzo and the boys basketball team. She would sit on the edge of her seat rooting them on.
Marti also enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling and cooking. She was a fabulous cook and especially making Sunday dinners for her family.
Marti met the love of her life, Robert A. Nash, at the roller-skating rink. They often went to Jackson for Coney Islands after the last song played. Marti and Bob were married in 1960 and began building their family home together. They were the proud parents to Jackie and Jill and proud grandparents to their beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their love and devotion was endless and we will cherish every minute spent together, forever and ever…
She is survived by her daughters, Jackie (Dale) Zimmerman and Jill Carroll; grandchildren, Ashley King, Brandon Zimmerman, Mark (Madalyn Sower) Wolkiewicz and Matthew (Gabriella) Wolkiewicz; great-grandchildren, Karley King, Kourtney King, Karter King, Trenton Wolkiewicz, Audrey Wolkiewicz, Bailey Wolkiewicz, Payton Sower and Lexus Sower; cousins, Roxanne and Jim Frey, Steve and Connie Matthews and Carol Matthews; close friends, Wayne Wolkiewicz and Dawn and Billy Lazarus; special son, Dr. Michael Kabot and all of her Sigma Chi boys.
Marti is preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Nash; mother, Dorothy Holtz; grandparents, Stella and Frank Holtz; aunts and uncles, Ruth and Robert Matthews, Mike Matthews, Sandra Matthews, and Bobby Matthews.
Per Marti’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
