

A joint Memorial Service is planned for July 3, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church in Albion with Father David Pike officiating. The family would like to invite those who come for the service to stay and join them for a light luncheon following the service at the church. For those who wish, memorial contributions in their memory may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 119 W. Erie St., Albion, MI 49224.
Dick and Mary were married on June 23, 1957 in Albion. They had celebrated 67 wonderful years together shortly before she passed on July 15, 2024 at the age of 91. Dick joined her on September 21, 2025 at the age of 92.
Dick and Mary were lifelong residents of the Albion area where they raised their family.
Mary was a longtime elementary school teacher where she mentored many Albion College students aspiring to become teachers.
Dick was the owner of Davis Decorating on main street for 25 years. Dick served our great nation first in the Army Reserves from 1951-1957, then in the U.S. Army National Guard in Michigan from 1957 until he was honorably discharged in 1959.
After raising their family and retiring, Dick and Mary moved permanently to their summer home on Duck Lake and became snow birds spending winters in Bradenton, Florida.
Both Dick and Mary worked as volunteers for the Pittsburgh Pirates during Spring Training in Bradenton. Dick was on the board of the Pirates Boosters as well as serving as their President. They were active members of Duck Lake Country Club since 1968, where Dick had served on the board as well as the President. He was instrumental in the planning and rebuilding after a fire destroyed the clubhouse.
Dick was the son of the late Dr. A.G. and Ethel (Heibein) Davis of Albion. He had a brother, The Reverend Kenneth Davis and infant sister Jean who preceded him in death,
Mary was the daughter of the late Howell L. and Katharyn A. (Sackett) VanGorden of Albion. She was also predeceased by one brother, Howell L. Jr. and 3 sisters, Patricia Cleveland, Dortha Siler and Katharyn Morley.
Dick and Mary leave to cherish their memories 3 children, Carol McKinney (Zack Scears), Ric Davis and Barbara (Tom) Stevens.
They also have grandchildren: Derek (Andrea) McKinney and their daughter Ashley; Matthew McKinney (Heather Sherwood) and his daughter Desirae; Christopher (Gina) Sullivan and their children, Brianna (Angel) Soto, Austin Cabellaro and Zachary Sullivan; Andrew Steven and his children Drew and Cora; Courtney (Randy) Betz and children, Brayden, Brooklynn and Delaney; Lauren (Tim) Tanner and their daughter Madelynn; Blake (Larissa) Sullivan and children Brexton and Lennox.
Additionally, Dick and Mary have one Great Great Granddaughter, Emi Soto.
