Mother Doretha McCan

Born February 20th, 1939 – Passed away December 28th, 2016 Mother McCan was one of eight children born to the late George White and Elnora Jenkins in Leesburg, GA. Mother McCan was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jimmie McCan Sr., July, 1958.

After relocating to Jackson, MI in 1967, Mother McCan was employed with the Sheraton Inn Hotel, she was an in-home-care provider and she worked for Marlon Manor.

Mother McCan’s son Bobby Lee White, precedes her in death. She will forever be remembered by her devoted husband of 58 years, Papa Jimmie Sr., her beloved children, (son) Daniel Lee White (Harlan) – GA, (son) Freddie Lee, MI, (son) Jimmy (Linda), MI, (daughter) Diane (Quentin) Hampton, MI, (son) Walter Lee (Debbie), MI, (son) Michael Lee (Pamela), NV, (daughter) Linda (Freddie) Young, MI, (daughter) Lisa (Timothy Sr.) Williams, MI and John White. 20 loving grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, her dear sister-in-law Abbie McCan, her best friends Nora Williams, Sandra Baker and Rosa Lee, along with countless other family members and friends whom were blessed to know her, and special grand-dog “Fancy”.

As a member of Bread of Life Ministries, Mother McCan enjoyed Bible Study, she loved fishing and held high standards for cleanliness in the kitchen, where Mother McCan was a gifted cook. She loved to watch everyone enjoy eating her food because as Proverbs 31:18 states, “she perceived that her merchandise was good.”

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at

Patient Montgomery Funeral Home, 406 First Street, Jackson, MI 49201. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7th at 12:00PM (NOON) at Lily Miss Baptist Church, 1117 W G Wade Drive, Jackson, Michigan 49201. Interment will follow Woodland Cemetery, Jackson.
