Norma Jean (Smith) Carothers, age 89, of Albion transitioned peacefully into heaven on Sunday, January 12, 2020, under the loving care of her family and Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice in Jackson, Michigan. She was born August 24, 1930, in Hillsdale, MI the daughter of Lincoln and Cathleen (Caywood) Smith and they preceded her in death along with siblings: Norman Smith, Helen Kantner, Ellen Mallery, Richard Smith and Carol Hephner.

Norma was a wonderful cook. She worked at Sullivan’s Dairy Bar for 15 years and then was a cook at Albion Community Hospital for 23 years. She was a collector of many things, but mostly cookbooks, recipes, cardinals and knick-knacks. She enjoyed crafting Christmas ornaments for her loved ones, making birthday cakes for her grandchildren, making Christmas candy and playing Bunco and Bingo. She was a member of the Entre Nous Club as well as the Forks Senior Center.

Norma leaves to cherish her memory 5 children: Patricia (Knowle) Engelter, Herb (Joyce) Signor, Kenneth (Ranessa) Signor, Janet (Richard) Main, Jean (Richard) Neil; 9 Grandchildren: William (Becky) Engelter, Michael Engelter, Benjamin (Sommer) Engelter, Shannon Signor, Bradley (Ashley) Signor, Chad Signor, Marsha (Jesse) Gooldy, Stephen (Rachael) Neil, Adam (Christy) Neil; 14 Great-grandchildren: Christina (Kodi) Marsh, Spencer Engelter, Jack Engelter, Terek Engelter, Avery Engelter, Ryane Engelter, Kaden Engelter, Amelia Signor, Hunter Gooldy, Madalynn Gooldy, Ryder Gooldy, Hunter Marken, Riley Marken, Bentley Neil, along with her brother, Frederick (Diane) Hooks.

Services to celebrate Norma’s life will be on Thursday, January 16, 2020 beginning with visitation at 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Forks Senior Center or to the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home.

So very sorry for your loss. Larry and I always enjoyed seeing Grandma C. She definitely will be missed by her family. So glad you all have those cherished ornaments she made everyone every year. Even tho she will not be here in body she will always be in your heart.
