Penny was born March 18, 1956, to the parents of Paul and Fran Mowrer. She was one of four daughters that they raised, along with two adopted brothers. Penny was the head of the household on the farm when growing up. She was Fran’s right-hand lady keeping the inside chores done and assisting taking care of her three younger sisters. Penny was a Springport High School graduate of the class of 1974, where she made a lot of lifelong friends.
After high school Penny became a nurse just like her mother before her. While going to nursing school at Jackson Community College Penny was a nurse aid at Sheldon Mannor in Albion. Once she graduated from college with her associate’s degree in nursing, Penny became a nurse at Albion Community Hospital. This is where she truly became a big part of the Albion Community. Penny worked not only in the hospital but volunteered at the ambulance service, as well caring for a variety of people in the community. When the hospital shut its doors, Penny continued her nursing career in multiple different fields of nursing. She worked at the Jackson Prison, Center of Family Health, and then finished her long nursing career at Elara Caring as a Home Hospice nurse.
When Penny wasn’t busy serving others, she was also a devoted wife and mother. Penny met her husband Richmond while she was living and working in Albion. After they got married on July 2nd, 1983, they continued to live in Albion and enjoy the community they both loved. On May 28th, 1990, Penny gave birth to her daughter Chelsea, and shortly afterward moved to the Concord. Penny was a proud mother, especially when her daughter decided to also follow in her footsteps by becoming a nurse. Penny was always devoted to her family and loved spending time with them at the holidays and life events.
Penny was a big light in a lot of people’s lives. She could always fill up a room with laughter and make friends with anyone around her. She was a huge Michigan State and Detroit Tigers fan, she always would be watching a game. Penny was also a social butterfly, with multiple different friend groups that she was a part of. She never met a stranger, which was a big part of her personality! She was always there to support anyone and give a helping hand, like a true nurse, until the very end.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Fran Mowrer, brothers Tom and Mike Mowrer and nephew Brett Lake.
Penny is survived by her husband Richmond, daughter Chelsea (Micheal) Myers. Sisters Pamela (Robert) Harding, Wendy (Donald) Lake and Jenny (Clint) Craft. Nephews Donald Ryan (Erica) Lake, Zach (Dakota) Harding, Drew (Samantha) Harding, Neil (Keara) Craft and niece Abbey (Peyton) Navarre. With numerous loving great nieces and nephews.
