

Roger was a competitive character, full of life, and a master of tall tales. He had a passion for motorcycles, motocross, trapshooting, and archery. He was also an avid firearm enthusiast. He spent as much time as he could mentoring his grandsons in all of his favorite hobbies. He would take them to motocross races all over the state of Michigan. Roger was one of the founders of “Honda Hills” in Albion where many friends would race dirt bikes. Their after-race ritual was to go to Charlie’s Tavern for pizza.
Roger was an extremely hard worker. He worked at the Albion Honda Shop as a mechanic, spent 30 years as a line leader for Oldsmobile/GM, and worked for 20 years at Shupbach’s Sporting Goods in Jackson.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Jeff) Steele, companion, Mary Lee, sister, Sharon Engelter, brother, Scott Winter, grandsons, Coty (Jessica) Luke, Corey (Kelsey) Luke and Nate (Katey) Steele, great-grandchildren, Lola, Elvie, Anna, Leah, Mercy, Ella and Ava.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Della (Alice) Winter, son, Roger “Hurk” Winter Jr, his parents, Howard and Phyllis (Brigham) Winter and best friend, Ed (Hawkeye) Hawks.
Services for Roger will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr. Albion, MI 49224. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00PM.
