Sammie Swinton, 63, made his transition on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at University of Colorado Health (UCH) Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, surrounded by his son, Bryant and sister, Emma Swinton. He was born on April 25, 1955, in Albion, Michigan, to the late David and Eliza (Conyers) Swinton. Sammie was one of seven children.
Sammie graduated from Albion Senior High School in 1973 and entered Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, MI) following.
In the early ‘80s, Sammie and his brother Rolyn opened “Swinton’s Record Shop” on Austin Avenue. Sammie worked for McGraw-Edison in Albion. Sammie worked a number of years at the Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. At the time of his passing, Sammie was employed by the Denver Zoo.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, David and Eliza Swinton; nephew, Richard N. Swinton and brother in-law, William Ray.
He leaves to cherish his memory: an only son, Bryant Samuel Swinton of Albion; godchild & niece, Rhiki Lee Ann Swinton, 3 sisters, Daisy (Robert) Johnson of Mobile, Alabama; Ruth Annie Swinton of Lansing and Emma Jane (Swinton) Ray of Albion; 3 brothers, Howard (Linda Faye) Swinton, Clifton Swinton and Rolyn Emmanuel Swinton all of Albion; 2 aunts, Mamie Gamble of Albion and Martha Newell of Buffalo, New York; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 12:00PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home,
811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 49224. Dinner will follow services at Leggett Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, 806 N. Albion St., Albion, Michigan 49224.
