Homer High School, received a Radiology degree from Leila Hospital in Battle Creek,
Mammography degree from Chicago, Illinois and Emergency Medical Technician certificate from Albion Area Ambulance Service.
She was a staff radiographer at Foote Hospital in Jackson, Sheldon Memorial Hospital and
Director of Radiography for 35 years at Albion Community Hospital (Trillium).
Shirley is survived by her son, Matthew (Cindy) of Marshall; granddaughters, Maegan of
AuGres, Kelsie of Detroit; great-granddaughters, Luna and Iris; brothers, Lorence of Tampa, FL,
George (Liz) of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents, James and Viola Guilford; husband, Dick (married 55 years) and son, Michael, who
was killed in the Peace Corps 1983.
Shirley’s professional affiliations consisted of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, American Registry of Mammography, Secretary-Treasurer and President of the Southwestern Michigan Society. During her term, the Michigan Society was founded to include all the regional districts. Clinical Instructor Affiliation with Kellogg Community and Jackson Community College Radiography Program. EMT with Albion Area Ambulance.
Shirley’s community affiliations, Albion Business and Professional Women since 1971. Person of Achievement Award in 2014. Professional Career Women of the year 1988. Albion’s Captain and organizer of the American Cancer Relay, Athena Award; featured in 1997 Women in Business Magazine; ELT Club, American Red Cross Blood Bank, borard of directors of the Albion Municipal Credit Union, Historical Society, Forks Senior Center, Cub Scout Leader, St. Johns and Lumen Christi School, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President for 6 years of St. John’s
Altar Society, was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
A Memorial Mass will be Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10AM at St. John Catholic Church, 1020 Irwin Avenue, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Father Joe Gray officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oaklawn Hospice.
