She passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018 with her family by her side.
Tonya, or “Becky” as some called her, loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time tending her
Gardens. Sports were always a focal point of her life. She played the position of catcher, wearing number 13 for Lance Parrish at Concord Schools. She graduated in the Class of 1987. She loved the Michigan State Spartans “Go Green”, Detroit Tigers never had a bigger fan. She enjoyed her family, especially her nieces and nephews Jozef, Bentlee, Devin, Aiden, Lillyon, Annabelle and Luna. Her mother Victoria Simmons and father Stephen Mead remained a big part of her life at all times. Her aunt Karen Clevinger lives in Tennessee. Marven Baze was her companion for over two decades and they only disagreed over the television stations preference of baseball versus automobile shows. Her sisters Beverlee Swisz, Jessica Fairchild and brother Jason Mead kept in close contact no matter the miles between them.
Despite her many years of battling with Lupus, she kept her God-Given sense of humor and made the best of every situation. Tonya even turned around the misfortune of Kidney disease and made good friends in the dialysis center. She talked about them often, like lifelong friends.
Tonya’s family is sponsoring a Life Celebration on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1:00PM at the Concord youth Center, 151 Grove Street, Concord, Michigan 49287. We will share pictures,
Stories, laughs, and a light lunch. Tony would not like tears on her behalf, so all that is
Requested is your presence and a story or two.
Tonya donated her organs upon her death in the hope of helping others have a better life.
That was her style.
Arrangements entrusted to J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, MI 49224
