Angie was born on July 2, 1969, and graduated from William Blount High School in 1987. Throughout her life, she held several jobs, with her longest tenures being at Rubbermaid and Vanderbilt Mortgage. Her greatest role, however, and the one she devoted most of her life to, was being a stay-at-home mom and home manager, where she poured her time, love, and energy into caring for her family.
For many years, Angie volunteered with and fostered dogs through Tennessee Dachshund Rescue, a cause that was very close to her heart. She enjoyed crafting, shopping, and watching Asian dramas. Angie also loved capturing moments and memories of her children growing up and of her travels with her husband, which she at first documented through scrapbooking and later through social media.
Angie had a way of lighting up every room she entered and never met a stranger. Her laugh was infectious and boisterous, and she had a charming smile framed by dimples. She was curious, resilient, fun, and caring, with a heart that was especially big for animals, particularly dogs. She was also an incredible baker and cook, known for her banana bread, ziti, chocolate caramel cookies, carrot soufflé, Brussel sprouts, and lemon poppy seed bread.
Angie loved to travel and cruise. The Netherlands, Alaska, and Japan were some of her favorite places she traveled to. She loved flowers and completed her bucket list trip to see the tulips of Keukenhof in the Netherlands after her cancer diagnosis. She also loved Butchart Gardens in British Columbia and visiting local flower fields and gardens with her family.
Angie was originally given a survival timeframe of six months when she was first diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive stage four brain cancer. She had a strong will to live and fought courageously to treat the cancer while also advocating for brain cancer awareness. Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Maikel Botros at Blount Memorial Cancer Center for his care, kindness, and friendship.
She was preceded in death by her mother Judy Cardwell (née Gurley).
Angie is survived by her devoted husband of almost 38 years, Steve Garrett; daughters, Alyssa Garrett and Stephanie Sullivan; son-in-law, Adam Sullivan; fathers, Roland Cardwell and Spencer Stewart; sister, Kim Hughes; brother-in-law, Jim Hughes; sister-in-law, Teresa Lindsey; dear friends, Rosemary and Lonnie Burns; faithful companion, Sally (Dachshund).
Angie will be missed more than words can express, but her family is incredibly grateful for the time they were blessed to have with her and are proud of the legacy she leaves behind of an indomitable spirit that wouldn’t stop fighting and a love that touched many lives. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, they find comfort in knowing this is not goodbye forever and rejoice in the promise that they will one day see her again.
The family welcomes friends to a Visitation at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 20, 2026. A Celebration of Angie’s life will follow at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Ken Bowling. Dress code is casual.
Honorary pallbearers are Jumper Boy, Barney Boy, Biggles, Trevor, Oscar, Tucker, and Stinky.
In lieu of flowers or meals for the family, Angie requested that donations be made to Tennessee Dachshund Rescue in her memory.
