

Betty Lee (Proffitt) Dyer, age 87, of Louisville, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving children. She succumbed to cancer after a valiant fight that her Lord and Savior carried her through. Betty was a graduate of Maryville High School class of 1958. Betty owned and operated the Mother Hubbard Daycare Center in Louisville for over 15 years. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church on Topside Road for over 50 years. She served the church in many capacities over the years including choir member, nursery worker, Women on Missions member, Willing Hands Quilting Ministry founding member, and alongside her husband she helped build several churches with Builders On Mission. Betty was greeted into eternity by her loving husband of 61 years Omer O. Dyer, Jr., her beautiful stepdaughter Kimberly Ann; her parents Luther Issac Proffitt and Clara Louiza Inman: and brothers Robert Jay Proffitt and wife Norma; and Edward Pink Proffitt and wife Ruth; and sisters Maude Ellen and Mary Magaline and son-in-law Jeffrey Hurley August.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Steven Owen Dyer; daughter, Lisa Dyer August; grandson James Dyer August and wife Hannah; and great-grandchild expected in December. She also leaves sister-in-law Janet Dyer and many nephews and nieces on the Dyer and Proffitt sides.
Betty loved her family, friends, and church. She loved hiking and was able to complete all the 900+ miles of trails in the Smoky Mountains almost twice. She loved her Sunday School classes Highway to Heaven and The Clay Pots. She loved quilting and providing quilts to her own family, Habitat for Humanity families and others. Everywhere she went she shared God's love with those she met.
Betty's family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 5:30pm - 6:30pm at Beech Grove Baptist Church, 1519 Topside Road, Louisville, TN 37777 with Funeral service following at 6:30PM. A private graveside service and interment will be Saturday June 14, 2025, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701. While the family will be accepting flowers, donations may also be made to Beech Grove Baptist Church designated for Builders On Mission or Willing Hands Quilting Ministry in Betty's memory.
