Eloise Virginia Sparks, age 101, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026. True to her organized nature and her desire to have the last word, Eloise penned the following account of her life herself, ensuring her story was told accurately and briefly:
Following High School graduation, Eloise began her studies at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN. Her studies incorporated the theory and practice of clinical laboratory technique. She would be a medical technician for several years. She retired from Modine Manufacturing Company where she worked as personnel secretary.
Eloise was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Knoxville, TN. She was an avid reader and enjoyed hiking in the Smoky Mountains. She was also a firm believer that if you want something done right—including writing an obituary—you should simply do it yourself.
She was preceded in death by her parents Evan and Jannie Morgan, by her husband, Thomas Edward Sparks, sister Trudy Olive Underwood, daughter, Rhonda Phelps, granddaughter Christie Wilson, and by her furry pal, "Poki.”
She is survived by her son-in-law, Hal Phelps; Grandchildren: Heather Rucker, Lindsey Piercy (Allen), and Sara Gallardo (Francisco); Great Grandchildren: Keirsten Almond, Ricky Wilson, Olivia, Zachary and Molly Rucker, Hannah Monholland, and Gus Piercy; Great-Great Grandchildren: Chastin Cox and Karsyn Spray.
Eloise requested cremation and interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the Memory Care staff of Rain Forest Landings and UT Hospice for the care they gave.
