Glen Raymond Dixon, 72, of Collierville, TN, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at home. He was born on May 21, 1951, in Fayetteville, AR. At the age of 5, his family moved to Birmingham, AL. for his dad’s job. He loved growing up on Lake Mitchell where he enjoyed all water sports - especially with his younger brother & sister. Especially liking the sciences, he was frequently working on science projects for fairs at school & frequently won. He graduated from Shades Valley High School near Birmingham in 1969. For reasons he never could explain, he loved the University of Tenn. & chose to leave Alabama for Tenn. One of the highlights for him was playing trombone in the UT “Pride of the Southland Band” attending several post-season Bowl games. He met his future bride, Jan Duckett, at the church he attended while at UT. They were married at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Aug 1975. After UT, he & Jan moved to Memphis, TN area where he worked with his father at Carr-Scarborough Microbiologicals. Afterwards, he decided to go into the computer field & received his degree from Shelby State Community College. Eventually, he started working for FedEx where he retired in 2014 as a Senior Technical Analyst after 30 years of service. While working at FedEx, he served as a volunteer at the FedEx St Jude Golf Tournament for the 30 years he worked there - several years as co-chairman of 1 of the committees. Helping the St Jude kids was very special to him. Through the years, one of the things he enjoyed the most was baking sourdough bread, which was kept alive & passed down the family since his great-grandmother baked with it many years before. Glen loved being outdoors whether participating in water sports, gardening & working in the yard with his wife, or hiking - especially in the Great Smoky Mountains. He & Jan loved to travel - especially to National Parks - & were able to visit 49 out of the 50 states. As a Christian of great faith, & having the gift of service, he always loved to help others whenever the need arose. Glen, along with his family, grew up as neighbors of the Bobby Bowden family & he always credited them with taking him to VBS where he received Christ as his Lord & Savior. He always loved the fellowship in being with other Christians whether attending coffeehouse while in college, SS at various churches, in community groups or elsewhere. He loved studying the Bible & was very involved in Bible Study Fellowship both in E & W TN. He & Jan traveled frequently back & forth across the state while caring for Jan’s elderly parents in E TN, so they became members of churches in both locations - at Collierville 1st Baptist Church in W TN & Mt Olive Baptist Church in E TN. Glen greatly loved his family & enjoyed gathering around for a meal & playing games, but one of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his granddaughters & attending their activities. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend & overall Christian example for others. He enjoyed a full life centered around his strong Christian faith & constantly strived to be a witness for the Gospel of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Glen Jackson & Dortha Ann Leach Dixon; father & mother-in-law James Albert & Mary Doris Cannon Duckett of Alcoa Tn. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan Duckett Dixon; son, Christopher Glen Dixon (& wife Kristen) of Lake Cormorant, MS with granddaughters Ethne & Emmie Dixon; sister Ean Colley (& husband Scott) of Vonore, TN.; brother Hugh Dixon (& wife Kelly) of Germantown, TN; aunt Ann Dixon Behnke of Bella Vista, AR., brother in law Jeff Duckett (& wife Kim) of Friendsville, TN.; several nieces, nephews, & cousins.
