

Jane Carlisle Cherry died on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, in Knoxville, TN, of complications of dementia and pneumonia. Jane was born October 16, 1929. She grew up in Plano, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Robert Carter Cherry, and by her parents, Willie Glynne and Minnalee Carlisle. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn Cherry Richards of St.Louis, MO, Daniel Carlisle Cherry (Susan) of Houston, TX, and Kristen Cherry McTyre (James) of Knoxville, TN, by her six grandchildren, and by her brother, Bill Carlisle (Mary) of Jackson, MS. After graduating from Plano High School in 1947, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin where she was student body secretary, president of Orange Jackets, and a member of Chi Omega sorority. Jane and Bob were married in 1951. They spent the early years of their marriage in the Marine Corps, then settled in Houston, TX in 1957. In 1984 they relocated to Memphis, TN, where they lived until Bob's death in 2011. Jane then moved to Knoxville, TN. She taught piano lessons for many years, then began a career in office administration, working at Houston Baptist University as well as at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Jane was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She always made home special. Because Jane was a volunteer there and loved dogs, the family suggest memorials to the Germantown Animal Shelter, 7700 Southern Avenue, Germantown, TN 38138. Jane will be buried in the Carlisle family plot in Dallas, TX. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
