John W. Davenport born on August 20, 1932 in Lawrence County, Tennessee passed away on April 25, 2018. He was a machinist at K-25 for 35 years and had been retired for many happy years. He was a deacon at Pine Ridge Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingston until his death. He is proceeded in death by his parents Hoke and Docia Davenport and his baby sister Jane Bailey. He is survived by his wife Bessie Davenport; four children and their spouses: John and Sharon Davenport, Pam and Jerry Woody, Dan Davenport and Sandy Rich; sisters Marylin Stout and Thelma and Denton McKeehan who loved him dearly and a special brother-in-law Charles and Jo Ann Bailey. John Davenport had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that he loved more than life and he taught many life lessons. He was an avid fisherman and UT football fan. GO VOLS! He once said his favorite song was Live Like You are Dying!! He didn’t mean that because he wanted to go bull riding but we understood what he meant later in life as we saw how he spent all his free time. If he wasn’t working, he was at church, swimming, fishing or watching football with his family and friends. All those things were what made life worth living. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in the Sherwood Chapel. The Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Jody McCloud officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Please visit www.sherwoodchapel.net to leave condolences for the family.
