Kay graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She went on to teach 2nd grade in both public and private schools for many years, impacting the lives of countless children.
She loved God, her family, and spending time with her granddaughters. Kay was an avid fan of UGA football, never turned down a good cup of coffee, and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known for her flaky, homemade pie crust.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Bruce William Byrne, and her son, Aaron Byrne.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chad Mangum of Seymour, Tennessee; her son and his fiancée, RJ Byrne and Mary Parker Daughtrey of Tifton, Georgia; five granddaughters, Ava, Ella, Isabelle, Josephine, and Clifton; her sister, Beverly Bitsky; and her special friend and nurse, Angelique Johnson, along with many other extended family members and friends.
The family extends a heartfelt, special thanks to the dedicated staff at The Villages at Deane Hill for their care and support.
In accordance with Kay’s wishes, a private service for immediate family only will be held. Thank you for respecting our family's privacy and keeping us in your prayers.
