Larry was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1948 to Terrel and Nola Jennings. He grew up in LeTourneau and enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, and playing basketball. After high school, Larry went into the Navy during the Vietnam War. He always said, “I joined the navy to ride the waves and see the world through a port hole.” And that was the truth as his tour of duty took him to Chicago, Charleston, then 2 years out to sea in foreign ports, including stops in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. In 1971 he was released from active duty and used his GI Bill to study at the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Parks and Recreation Administration. Larry met his wife, Linda Nobles Jennings, in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1972. They were married in 1973 and began a Southeastern adventure with several moves to Georgia and throughout Tennessee. He started and developed numerous recreation department programs and facilities throughout his 32-year career in the field. Larry and Linda built their family and enjoyed spending time together going to sporting events and taking day trips. He was a lover of talk radio and old cowboy/western TV shows. His true joy was always his faith in God and active membership in the Church.
Larry is survived by the Love of his life, Linda Nobles Jennings, his wife of 50 years and his sister, Elah Mae Campbell (with Don, Brother-in-law). He is also survived by his son, Layne (with Heather, Daughter-in-law) and his daughter Lauren (with Fred, Son-in-law), as well as his three grand-daughters, Emma, Virginia, and Bernadette. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Terrel and Nola Jennings, as well as many loving Aunts and Uncles.
