
VANDERPOOL, Lawrence William, 92 of Maryville, passed away peacefully with family Thursday, April 5, 2012. Lawrence was a WWII veteran. After one year’s enlistment in Civil Conservation Corp (CCC) at LaQuin, PA, he enlisted, active duty, in July, 1939. He departed August, 1939 for the Panama Canal Zone, and served from 1939 until February, 1942. He was re-assigned to the 65th Infantry Regiment, Camp Shelby, MS, as an Infantry Instructor. He participated in the Battle for Germany from February, 1942, to the end of the war. For his service to his country, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star, and several other awards. Lawrence was preceded in death by parents; Anna (God) and Samuel Vanderpool; sisters, Beverly and Catherine; brother, Theodore; and grandson, Nathan Vanderpool. Survived by wife of 68 years, Victoria (Rutledge) Vanderpool; daughter, Sondra V. Waggoner; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Doris Vanderpool; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence was a member of Fairview Methodist Church. Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Jerry Russell officiating.
