Ruth was a true people person whose kind heart, generous spirit, and thoughtful nature touched the lives of everyone she met. She found joy in caring for others, making lasting friendships, and always putting the needs of those around her before her own. Her warmth, compassion, and welcoming smile will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Hendrickson; her daughter, Mildred Louise Amburn; her parents, Oscar and Nannie Strahan; and her siblings, Della Strahan, Riley Strahan, Phillip Strahan, and Dwight Strahan.
Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Charles (Shelley) Amburn II; her grandchildren, Terry Hathaway, Aiden Belcher, Charles Amburn III, and Saige Amburn; her great-grandson, Mason Hathaway; her sister, Gwen (Carl) Ford; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends will then meet at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. for a graveside service.
Ruth's legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Though she is no longer with us, her gentle spirit and the many lives she touched will never be forgotten.
