Bruna Mary Cavacece, 98, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, passed into the presence of our Dear Lord at 8:00pm on February 9, 2019. The family spent the day saying good-bye and surrounding her with prayers and singing hymns. Fr Ashley officiated at her burial mass at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, B.C. on February 15, 2019. She was predeceased by Peter (son), Tony (husband), Bruno (brother), Giuditta (mother), & Onarato (father).
Bruna was born October 22, 1920, to parents Onorato Facchin and Giuditta Zaniol, in Crocetta Del Montello, Traviso, Italy.
Bruna immigrated to Canada with her father and mother on February 20, 1923. The family settled in Edmonton, Alberta, where her brother Bruno was born November 24, 1924. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Vancouver, B.C. and settled in a small rented house on Union St. where she attended Strathcona School. She enjoyed many fond memories during her years growing up in Vancouver, and she was closely connected to Sacred Heart Church where her spirituality was nurtured and embraced.
She went on to study Nursing at University of British Columbia and graduated on October 18, 1950 with a Degree in Registered Nursing. She was a pioneer in her field, and worked in remote areas such as Burns Lake and Windermere. Her 30 career as a nurse included working as a supervisor at St. Paul's Hospital, and later serving as a Public Health Nurse in the Fraser Valley.
She met her husband Antonio while visiting Italy in 1954, and after a short engagement they married on February 19, 1955 and settled in East Vancouver where they raised their 5 children until June of 1967 when they moved to the small town of Clearbrook when they bought the Valley Motel.
Bruna survived a fatal car crash that took her husband and mother on Father's Day, June 19, 1977. She continued to live in Abbotsford and spent the remainder of her life enjoying her family of 5 children and their spouses Larry(Lisa), Rick (Tannis), Peter (Tammy), Linda (Mike), Carla (Ken) , 16 grandkids and 24 great grandkids. During this time she started a chapter of the Secular Franciscan Order in St. Ann's Church, where she shared the love and devotion of her faith.
Her home was one filled with love, faith, and Italian tradition. She was so compassionate and loving to all those who were blessed to know her. Many hours were spent working in her little garden where she was filled with joy. Some of her many legacies are the aroma of her spaghetti sauce simmering, camping trips to Birch Bay and the Vedder with her little trailer, and long talks about God and life. She is so missed by all of us. We love you mom!
