Born to Dr. Wilfred and Mamie Addinell in Edmonton, Alberta, Lorraine lived a full life. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon Grierson (2017) and brother, Robert Addinell (2022).
Lorraine leaves behind a loving family; she is survived by her two children: Ken Grierson of Langley and Cathy Grierson (Paul) and granddaughter Ella of Nelson, BC. As well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who will each carry forward her memory and strength.
Lorraine gave generously of her time. She met Gordie while working at the Edmonton Journal and they married June 4, 1952. Shortly after they moved to Red Deer where they built a strong community of lifelong friends based on years of volunteerism with The Kinsmen, Rotary, Shriners (Daughters of the Nile) Clubs, Red Deer Public Library and Museum and St. Leonard’s On the Hill. It was difficult to leave this community when a work opportunity took them to Abbotsford, but they soon found they were embraced in a new community and chose to retire in the warmer climate of BC’s Lower Mainland a few years later.
Lorraine was a gifted seamstress, gracious host and creative soul. Her home and garden were her sanctuary, a place of beauty, harmony and serenity. Her manicured gardens, with their clean lines, curated palette and symmetry were an extension of how she lived life with an artistic flair, precision and elegance. After a full day of gardening, Lorraine would often be seen soaking her size 5 feet in an Epsom salt bath while sipping on lemonade with a sprig of lavender from her garden.
Her memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions continued and the love that surrounds her family.
The family will be having a private memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your favorite charity.
