Born December 8, 1951 in Ottawa, ON and passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 in Chilliwack, BC. Predeceased by his parents, Denise and Marcel Vachon and brother Don Vachon and beloved dog, Boo. Dearly missed by his wife of 42 years, Darlene and his two daughters, Jennifer (Gregory) and Bre as well by his three grandchildren, Lucy, Sierra and Brody, numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family and dear friends too numerous to mention.
Gerry was always the most positive person and his family meant everything to him. He had a larger than life personality and showed it every day. He always had time for everyone, especially his grandchildren, and was constantly making everyone laugh whether it was by being a practical joker or getting up on stage to show off his dance moves.
Gerry was also a sports fanatic his whole life. Whether it be as a player or coaching his daughters, Gerry was always involved. One of his proudest moments was being part of a team that played in Little League World Series. Gerry was often the star hitter hitting grand slams in multiple games helping his team qualify. He believed sports should be fun first but also competitive and he was often everyone’s favourite coach. In his later years, he spent a lot of his free time on the golf course and devoted his time to his grandchildren’s endeavors. He was even lucky enough to get a hole in one. Darlene and Gerry were also avid lawn bowlers, competing and winning a Pairs Provincial title together.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8909 Mary St., Chilliwack, BC.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation in Gerry’s name would be greatly appreciated.
