It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Edmonson Sullivan (nee Hodson) April 25, 2021, at the Langley Lodge, Langley BC. Margaret was born November 4, 1928, in San Francisco, California. As the only child to her mother, Hazel Hodson, at the age of four, they moved to her mother’s hometown of Victoria, BC.
After graduating from Victoria High School, Margaret enrolled at the University of British Columbia obtaining her Bachelor of Education. Margaret started her teaching career in Duncan, BC but quickly moved on to Alberta seeking the horse riding, country lifestyle, while continuing her teaching career in Alberta. However, after managing numerous Alberta winters, Margaret realized how much she missed Island life. Always one for an adventure, Margaret could not give up her love of the sea, with her four children in tow, 6 horses, and 3 dogs she returned to Vancouver Island in 1968. Margaret continued teaching within the Sooke School District. First, at Elisabeth Fisher Junior High School and finishing her career at Belmont High School. Margaret was known to say she knew her children so well from teaching all their friends, who just could not learn when to stop telling her stories.
Margaret was a dedicated loving mother of four and is survived by her daughter Leona (Rommel) Loof of Langley, BC, sons Lee Edmondson (Ronnie) of Tsawwassen, BC, Tony Edmonson (Lynn) of Merida, California, and Royal Edmonson (Lynn) currently residing in Vietnam, her grandchildren Ryan, Reid, Meghan, Carly, Brett, Cassie, Hayley and her great grandson Jase.
Upon retirement, Margaret spent many years with her childhood sweetheart Gerald Sullivan, who she finally married just before retirement. Together they began running a mall sheep hobby farm, first in Metchosin and then Duncan. She always found time to ride her favorite mares from Alberta, Willy and Wonda, under the watchful eye of her canine confidants Deacon, and Rufus. Upon Gerry’s passing Margaret moved to Langley, BC to be closer to her family.
Margaret lived a great life, enjoying many years of country life, teaching, and a love of family, horses, and dogs. This order was always subject to change. Margaret will be missed by many.
A big thank you to all the wonderful nurses of the third floor at Langley Lodge. In lieu of flowers, we ask you donate to a charity of your choice and to always hug those that you love, as time paasses all to quick. God bless.
