June 19, 1945 - January 6, 2025
It is with sadness that we announce Eldy’s passing on January 6th at the age of 79 years. Eldy was born on June 19, 1945 to Robert and Maxine (Porter) Johnston. He was born and raised and spent his entire life in Murrayville attending Murrayville Elementary, Langley Secondary and later UBC.
Eldy was kind, calm and soft spoken and had a great sense of humour. He loved the outdoors camping and later trailering, gardening, walking the family dogs, Zoe and Zack and many hours walking his oldest grandson, Aidan in the stroller to Langley Airport to watch the planes land and take off. He was an avid reader and one of his favourite spots to read was the back patio even in the winter with Zoe and Zack at his feet. Eldy attended the gym seven days a week right up until Covid shut everything down in 2020. In his younger years, softball was a big part of his life. He later developed a love for volleyball playing after work every week with fellow employees and when travelling to various locations in the Caribbean and Mexico in the winter, he never missed an opportunity to play beach volleyball twice a day.
He will be lovingly remembered by Sandra, his wife of almost 52 years, his son, Aaron, his daughter, Sarah (Don), his grandchildren, Aidan, Declan and Berkeley, his sister, Penny Rawlings of Whitehorse, his nieces and nephew, Lisa, Alana (John) and Blair and great nieces and nephews Graysen, Cailyn, Cooper, Michael, Riley, Asher and Bodhi and his brother-in-law Wayne (Laverne) McGowan. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother-in-law, Michael Rawlings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rosemary Heights Seniors Village for their loving care of Eldy over the past 4 years.
No service is planned at this time.
